Below are the ways we are integrating with our Oakland community to fulfill this aspect of our mission–scroll down to learn more about each:
COMMUNITY YOGA CLASS
Namaste offers community yoga classes every Friday evening from 6:00-7:30pm at our Grand Lake studio.
This donation-based class is open to all levels, and is designed to allow anyone with financial constraints to still have access to yoga. The sliding scale is $10 – $20; if you can pay more, please take this opportunity to offer dana (generosity) to those in your community who cannot afford it at this time.
Also see the Whole Foods Wellness Club below for information on some free yoga classes!
Swami Niranjan has explained that the word seva is made up of two words, ‘saha’ and ‘eva’. Saha means ‘with that’ and eva means ‘too’. The word seva means ‘together with’ and is describing those actions that seek collective upliftment through an understanding of the needs of others and are based on togetherness and integration. Seva is an expression of compassion, of the desire to uplift and assist people.
This is an integral component of Namaste’s mission. We believe in serving our East Bay community by supporting organizations that have the same desire to compassionately uplift and assist people in our neighborhood and beyond.
This quarter we are proud to support
Seneca’s mission is to help children and families through their most difficult times. This mission is based on a belief that all youth are capable of success when provided the right environment and supports. Our services are driven by a commitment to collaborate with families, communities, and public/private agency partners to ensure that all children, even those facing the most profound difficulties, can achieve their full potential. Seneca provides a number of services to students and families in the Bay Area serving children and families involved in the child welfare, juvenile justice, mental health, and education systems.
Seneca’s school-based programs provide mental health and behavioral support services to students enrolled in public, nonpublic, and public charter schools. These programs serve children preschool age through high school. Seneca also provides community-based services including therapeutic behavioral support, therapeutic counseling services, and intensive case management. All of Seneca’s services are rooted in the agency’s Unconditional Care treatment model, which provides the tools and framework to assess and address the relational, ecological, and behavioral needs of the most vulnerable children and families.
