Community

NamasteCommunity-TemescalFairAt Namaste, serving our community is an integral part of of our mission. We strive to bring the elements of yoga to you on your mat, as well as off the mat.

Below are the ways we are integrating with our Oakland community to fulfill this aspect of our mission–scroll down to learn more about each:

COMMUNITY YOGA CLASS

Namaste offers community yoga classes every Friday evening from 6:00-7:30pm at our Grand Lake studio.

This donation-based class is open to all levels, and is designed to allow anyone with financial constraints to still have access to yoga. The sliding scale is $10 – $20; if you can pay more, please take this opportunity to offer dana (generosity) to those in your community who cannot afford it at this time.

Also see the Whole Foods Wellness Club below for information on some free yoga classes!

SEVA PROGRAM

Swami Niranjan has explained that the word seva is made up of two words, ‘saha’ and ‘eva’. Saha means ‘with that’ and eva means ‘too’. The word seva means ‘together with’ and is describing those actions that seek collective upliftment through an understanding of the needs of others and are based on togetherness and integration. Seva is an expression of compassion, of the desire to uplift and assist people.

This is an integral component of Namaste’s mission. We believe in serving our Oakland community by supporting organizations that have the same desire to compassionately uplift and assist people in our neighborhood and beyond.

This quarter we are proud to support
Mindful Life Project

Mindful Life Project is a non-profit 501(c)3 that is based out of Richmond, CA. They teach mindfulness, yoga, therapeutic art, and hip-hop/performing arts, to elementary students in underserved schools and communities. They have two regular day school programs that teach self-awareness, impulse-control, confidence, and resiliency.

100% of Namaste’s mat rental fees will be contributed to this organization. If you feel inspired to give more than the mat rental fee, greater donations are always welcome.
